Organisational work

S Suresh took to social work through the Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh. For 17 long years, from 1986 to 2003, he was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in various capacities. Beginning as an ordinary worker, Suresh went on to be the ABVP City Secretary (1993), District Secretary (1994), State Secretary (1996-1998) and state Vice President (1998-2001).

In 2003, he moved to the BJP and was State Secretary of the party's youth front Bharatiya Janatha Yuva Morcha from 2003-2006 and was its State Vice President from 2006-2009. In February 2010, Suresh was made the Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary of the BJP, a position which he still holds.

He was a member of the Film Censorship Committee from 2001 to 2004 and was also on the advisory body of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan during this period. The dynamic leader was also among the invitees to the Youth Parliament held in New Delhi in 2000.

Suresh has also left indelible imprints in the social and trade union fields. Currently, he serves as President of the Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple Raksha Vedi, which is a joint forum of private temples in Thiruvananthapuram, President of the Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple Karmachari Sangh, President of Venus Engineers Independent Workers Union and State Committee member of the Akhil Bharatiya Abhibhashaka Parishad.

Elections

The Local Body polls of 2010 marked S Suresh's entry into the political arena. With 13,377 votes, from the district division, Suresh was the leading vote catcher in the BJP.

Activism
For the last one and a half decade, S Suresh has been a domineering presence in the student and youth movements. It would not be exaggerating to say that he is one leader who has suffered maximum police brutality in front of the state secretariat. The agitations in which he played a vital role include the 1994 student march in connection with the ISRO spy scandal, 1995 Sanskrit University protection movement, the 1996 agitation against Marxist highhandedness, the 2000 struggle against police repression on students protesting the corruption in plus two, 2005 Kovalam Palace struggle and the 2007 protests against ADB loan conditions.

A brilliant organiser, Suresh is a shining example of what a dedicated cadre should be. Arrested by the police on many occasions, Suresh also had to spend many a day in hospitals for forcefully taking up the public cause. An orator par excellence, he has been a inspiring force for lakhs of party activists across Kerala.

  1. One of the most inspirational leaders that I have come across in the state. He does not hail from a rich family background, nor did he inherit a political fortune. But still he has the maximum die-hard supporters within the city and over the state. But why?

Simply because he was always one amongst us. Sureshji was not the sort of leader who would stay back in office while the cadre faces the burnt of the police batons. If anyone got the first blow, it was invariably Sureshji.

As Rakeshji rightly described, he is one person who has suffered the maximum wrath of the police and opposition for the cause that he and we believe in.

Also, as a co-worker of Sureshji, I remember how his oratorical skills could ignite passion and fire in the minds of the listners.

If one person can lead a revolution bringing an end to the ill rule of the congress & communists, it should be Sureshji because he has the potential and will power to do it.

    Good Luck Sureshji.
